Toddle supports integrations with external learning tools, providing students and teachers with seamless access to the resources they regularly utilize. In this article, we will explore how Toddle integrates with H5P.
This article will cover how to:
Set up H5P in Toddle
As an admin, you can add tools from Toddle’s pre-configured catalog that support the LTI 1.1 or 1.3 standards.
To begin:
1. Navigate to Admin portal→School setup→LTI apps
2. Click the ‘+Add’ button.
3. Select ‘Add from catalog’.
Tip: For partner tools like H5P, always use the catalog option. The custom app setup is only meant for tools not listed in Toddle’s catalog. To learn how to set up a custom tool, refer to this article.
4. Select H5P from the catalog.
5. Select the curriculum(s) where you want this tool.
6. Choose the appropriate ‘Version’ from the dropdown. Click ‘Save and next’.
Option 1: Integrate LTI tools with 1.1 standard
Enter the required credentials (client key, shared secret and launch URL) provided by H5P.
Toggle ‘Allow grade passback’ to enable scores from the LTI tool (e.g. quiz results) to flow back into Toddle’s gradebook.
Use the checkbox to enable the tool for teachers. Click ‘Save’ to complete the setup.
Option 2: Integrate LTI tools with 1.3 standard
Generate and enter the required credentials. For some tools, Toddle generates credentials that can be copied and pasted into the required fields. For others, credentials need to be obtained from the tool’s portal. The mandatory fields include:
Initiate login URL
Launch/Redirect URL
Keyset URL
Toggle these settings if needed:
Allow grade passback – When enabled, scores from the LTI tool (for example, quiz results) will automatically flow into Toddle’s gradebook for the assignments where the tool is added.
Allow roster access – When enabled, the LTI tool can access the classwise list of all students and teachers rostered in the curriculum where the tool is launched. This allows the tool to recognize and match users correctly.
Use the checkbox to enable the tool for teachers. Click ‘Save’ to complete setup.
The integration will appear as a card showing the tool name, configured curriculums, LTI version, and its status (enabled or disabled for the teachers). From this card, you can view details of the integration, edit the settings, or delete the tool if required.
Note: If teachers have already started using the tool, you can still edit its settings. However, deleting the tool will immediately remove access for all teachers and students.
Use H5P in the classroom
As an educator, you can incorporate integrated H5P into your classroom by adding it to the submission template when creating class assignments. Here's how you can do it:
Click on ‘Add an external tool’ within the submission template.
Select H5P.
Note: You might need to sign up or log in, depending on the tool you are using.
When you choose H5P as a submission template, it opens directly within Toddle. H5P provides a wide range of content types that can be easily integrated into Toddle to enhance student engagement. Here, you can either create new content or upload existing content with the help of the different content types available.
Note: The way it opens depends on the tool itself; some tools open inside Toddle (embedded in an iframe), while others open in a new tab.
Fill in the required details and customize the settings as required. Once the content is ready, click on ‘Save and Insert’ to add it to the submission template in Toddle.
Once added, you can rename or remove it using the three-dot menu. Click ‘Assign’ when you're ready.
Note: Scores from H5P will flow into Toddle’s gradebook only if the ‘Allow grade passback’ setting is enabled during setup in Toddle. The scores will automatically scale according to the maximum score set for the assignment in Toddle.
View at the students’ end
Once you assign the task, students can see the H5P attachment in their assigned task. In the ‘Your response’ section, they can click on the ‘Add’ button to begin interacting with the content.
They can go through the added resource and submit their responses.
Upon completion, students will be able to see the number of correct responses. Next, they can mark the assignment as done to submit their responses on Toddle.
After submission, you can track student responses and scores from the ‘All submissions’ tab.
You can also access the student's submission details, including start and end times, total time spent, and final score. Additionally, you can review the student's answers with correct/incorrect indicators and mark the submission as evaluated.
Note: Responses linked to external tools cannot be added as portfolio posts or downloaded.
