Editable guidance in projects

Updated this week

We’re excited to roll out a helpful new enhancement that gives you greater flexibility in creating project guidance for your teaching teams and students. Until now, Toddle’s default guidance couldn’t be edited, and school-specific resources could only be added as attachments. With our powerful new doc-style editor, you can now write directly, format content effortlessly, embed rich media, and even import guidance from previous academic years - all within one seamless experience.

While this article uses the IBDP Extended essay module as an example, the same functionality is available across other IB projects:

  • IB Diploma Programme (DP): Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

  • IB Career-related Programme (CP): Reflective project and Service learning

  • IB Middle Years Programme (MYP): Personal project and Community project

Let’s dive into the details.

A fully editable and customizable experience

We have simplified the process of setting up guidance under the ‘Setup’ page of projects. The previous ‘Getting started’ step has been removed, so you now begin directly with ‘Configure guidance’ step that allows you to add resources and guidance for project supervisor and students.

As you enter inside the ‘Add supervisor guidance or ‘Add student guidance’ sections, you will see two powerful new options: ‘Import’ and ‘Edit’.

Import guidance from another year or Toddle guidance

Clicking ‘Import’ allows you to quickly reuse existing guidance. You have two choices:

  • Import from another year: Reuse and adapt guidance from another academic year’s batch.

  • Import Toddle guidance: Restore the default, pedagogically sound guidance material provided by Toddle.

💡The import function is an override action. When you import content, it will replace everything currently on the page. However, once the import is complete, you can use the ‘Edit’ feature to make any further customizations you need.

A powerful new editor

Clicking ‘Edit’ opens the guidance page in a flexible new doc-style editor, giving you complete control over the content.

You can use the floating toolbar at the top or type the handy ‘/’ command to access all the editing tools.

With these new capabilities, you can:

  • Take full control: Modify or delete any of the default Toddle content, or start from scratch to create your own.

  • Format with ease: Structure your content for clarity using headings, bolding, lists, and more.

  • Build with rich media: Use the insert option for images, tables, and dividers, and embed links or files directly onto the page.

Once you are done, click ‘Save changes’ to publish the updated guidance.

That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
