We are introducing two exciting updates to help you streamline unit planning and documentation. You can now download a complete unit - including Unit flow and Evidencing sections - and import units with greater flexibility by choosing whether or not to carry forward reflections.
Download a complete unit plan
You can now download a consolidated view of your unit, making it easier to share or archive planning documentation.
1. Go to Class → Planning → Unit planning.
2. There are two ways to download a planner:
From the unit planning page: Click the three-dot menu on the unit card, and select ‘Download planner’.
From within the unit view: Open the unit, click the three-dot menu on the top-right corner, and select ‘Download planner’.
Once selected, choose one of the following options:
Quick download
Custom download
Quick download
Use ‘Quick download’ to instantly generate a PDF version of your unit that includes the main planning sections — Inquiry & Action (or Planning) and Reflections. This option excludes the Unit Flow and Evidencing tabs.
Note: All links, attachments, and media added anywhere in the unit appear as clickable links in the downloaded file.
Custom download
Use ‘Custom download’ to generate a detailed version of your planner and decide which parts to include in the PDF.
All tabs of your unit plan including Unit Flow and Evidencing (which are not part of the Quick download) can be selected for download.
You can choose specific sections to include within tabs that have multiple sub-sections, such as ‘Inquiry & Action’ or ‘Reflections’.
Once your selections are finalized, click ‘Download’. A PDF copy of the planner will be emailed to your registered address.
Note: The available sections and their structure may vary based on your school’s planner configuration. The examples shown here reflect a standard MYP planner. Your school’s version may include additional or renamed sections.
Once ready, you will receive an email to download the PDF copy of the Unit.
Note: The download link remains valid for 30 days from the date of generation.
Once downloaded, the planner PDF displays each selected section as it appears on Toddle — maintaining the same headers, sub-sections, and formatting. This ensures the printed or shared copy mirrors the digital planner view.
For students and families
When a unit is shared with students or families, they can view it in read-only mode.
From the three-dot menu in the shared unit, they will see a ‘Download’ option that performs a quick download of the unit plan.
This version includes the ‘Inquiry & Action’ and ‘Reflections’ sections but excludes Unit Flow and Evidencing.
Import units with reflections
When importing units from your School library, you now have more control over what gets carried forward.
To import a unit:
1. Go to Class → Planning → Unit planning.
2. Click on the ‘+ Create’ button at the top and select ‘Import from School library’.
3. By default, all reflections within the ‘Reflections’ tab, both teacher and student, are included during import. If you prefer not to include reflections, select the ‘Exclude unit reflections’ checkbox before proceeding to import.
4. On the next screen, name your unit, set the start and end date, choose the class(es), and assign staff members who can access the unit. Click ‘Import’ to finish.
5. Once done, the imported unit will appear in Unit planning section. The imported reflections can be accessed in the ‘Refections’ tab of the unit.
Note: All sections within the ‘Reflections’ tab are included when importing a unit - this covers both teacher and student reflections. If any custom sections have been added, their content will also be imported. However, attachments such as media files are not included in the import.
Frequently asked questions
1. Can I edit reflections after importing?
Reflections written in a normal text editor can be edited after import. However, reflections created inside dedicated reflection boxes can be deleted only by administrators.
2. Do attachments inside reflections get imported?
No, attachments such as images, videos, or documents added within reflections are not included during import. Only the text content is carried forward.
3. Are there any limits on how much content can be printed?
No, there are no restrictions on the size or length of a unit you can print.
4. Will the downloaded version of the unit include embedded links and media?
Yes. All links and attachments added in your unit, such as PDFs, videos, and evidence items, are included as clickable links in the downloaded file.
5. Why does my downloaded file look different from the examples shown in the article?
The layout and sections in your downloaded planner may vary based on how your Toddle planners are customized. Some schools include additional sections or rename existing ones to match their planning framework.
Regardless of these differences, the download process and options remain the same. All sections available in your school’s planner - standard or custom - will appear in your PDF.
That is all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
