Migration guide for schools moving to China data center
Migration guide for schools moving to China data center
Updated over 5 months ago

Toddle operates servers in six locations worldwide, including one in Mainland China. Due to the Great Firewall of China, we have maintained complete isolation between our Chinese server and our five global servers. As a result, users accessing the Toddle web app and mobile apps from China need to use separate URLs compared to those accessing from other locations.

Initially, we stored school data from China on our global servers. However, we have recently launched our server in China and are in the process of migrating the school data from our global servers to our local servers in China.

To assist users during this data migration, we have created a guide outlining the necessary steps to access the Toddle web app and mobile apps specific to China after the migration is complete.

For web application users

For web application users, including teachers, students, and family members:

Once the migration is complete, if you are logged into web.toddleapp.com, you will see the following screen. This screen notifies you that your school's data has been migrated to web.toddleapp.cn and will prompt you to log in at web.toddleapp.cn. Clicking on ‘Go to Toddle China’ will also redirect you to web.toddleapp.cn.

For mobile application users

iOS users:

For iOS users, we have deployed separate versions of the Toddle applications exclusively available in China. These apps can be found under the following names:

After the migration of your school's data is complete, you will see a notification screen in your current iOS Toddle application. Follow the steps provided on this screen to transition to the new app versions.

Please note that the China-specific apps are available only in China. If your Apple profile is set to a different country, you will not see the China-specific apps. In this case, you can continue using the global version. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Log out from the above screen.

  2. On the homepage, go to the settings and select the China server. Then, log in using your credentials.

Older versions of the app had a server switcher on the homepage. If you see this, click on the China flag from the dropdown menu, and it will start pointing to the China server.

In the newer versions of the app, you can find a settings icon on the homepage. This settings menu allows you to select the server and language separately, as shown below:

After the migration, Android users will see a notification screen similar to the one shown below:

Due to China's ban on Google, the Google Play Store is not available in China. This has led to the emergence of numerous other Android application stores.

Considering the number of users and the popularity of these alternative stores, we have decided to deploy our Android applications on the following platforms:

  • Huawei app store

  • Xiaomi app store

We plan to add more stores in the future and will update this article as we expand support to additional stores.

Here are the URLs for the Huawei App Store:

Other mobile manufacturers

For users with Android devices from vendors other than the ones mentioned above, you can download the APK from this link.

Once you have installed the China-specific version of the Android applications, you should be able to sign in using your credentials without any issues.

We hope this guide helps you smoothly transition to the China-specific versions of Toddle. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, please contact our support team.
