How can PYP students submit assignments and self evaluate?
Updated over a week ago

Toddle provides an intuitive workflow for a PYP student to view the tasks assigned to them, submit their response and self-evaluate. This article will walk you through the process of doing that.

  • Task submission

  • Self-evaluation

  • View the assessed task

Navigating to pending tasks

via Homepage

On the homepage, you will see a ‘Class stream to-do’ list of your assignments from all your classes. This task list is divided into three tabs - Upcoming tasks, Overdue tasks and the tasks which have no due date.

Click on ‘View all’ to get an elaborate list of your tasks.

Task submission

To submit your response, click on the task name either on the above screen or using the to-do list on the homepage. Once you are on the submission page, you can add your work in two ways:

Option 1: If the teacher has not provided a template for the task, you can click on the ‘Add work’ button and submit your response in the form of a picture, audio, video, file, link or workbook. Depending on the chosen response type, you'll get options to directly capture/record content or upload from a device/one drive/Google Drive.

Option 2: If your teacher has provided a specific template for the assignment, it’ll show up on your submission page and you can click on the ‘Add response’ button to submit your work using the given template.

Once you have added your work, click on ‘Mark as done’ at the bottom to submit it.

If you would like to resubmit your work, click on ‘Unsubmit’. Please note that you will not be able to modify/resubmit your work once it is marked as evaluated by your teacher.

Self-evaluation

If the assigned task is open for student evaluation, you will be able to self-assess your work using the specific assessment tools added to a particular task. Your teacher can choose to add multiple assessment tools for a given task, which you can use for self-evaluation.

Step 1: To self-assess your work, scroll down to the ‘Evaluation method’ section on the task submission page. Against each assessment tool(rubric/checklist/single point rubric), you will find the ‘Evaluate your work’ button. Click on it to open the assessment criteria.

💡Student evaluation for ‘Score-based assessment’ and ‘Final remarks/comments’ will be disabled by default at your end.

Step 2: Assess your work as per the assessment criteria and click on ‘Done’ if you are satisfied with your evaluation. Repeat the same process for other assessment tools added to the task (if any).

Step 3: Once you are satisfied with your submission and self-evaluation, click on the ‘Mark as done’ button to complete your submission. If not, click on the ‘Edit evaluation’ button to revise the self-assessment.

After marking the assignment as done, you will be able to view your evaluation and response. If you want to make changes to your work, you can always click on ‘Unsubmit’ and make the submission again. From this screen, you can also add your work as a journal post.

In case the teacher has not enabled student evaluation for a particular assessment tool, you will see the view option instead of edit for it.

View the assessed task

After the teacher has evaluated your work and shared it with you, you will get a notification on the homepage as shown below. You can view the assessment by clicking on the Notification or by clicking the assignment in question under the ‘Done’ tab in the class stream, as shown below.

Please note that once the work is evaluated, you cannot make any changes to it. You will be able to download your work or post it to the class journal.

From here, you can also view the evaluation shared by your teacher for the assigned task. There are different kinds of assessment tools used in PYP: score-based assessment, rubric, checklist and final remarks/comment. Your teacher can choose one or more of these assessment tools to evaluate your work. You will accordingly see the shared evaluation at your end.

The score and the remarks given by the teacher are visible directly on this page. For other assessment tools, click on the ‘View evaluation’ button to get a detailed view of the evaluation shared by your teacher.

For instance, the rubric used here for evaluation shows both student and teacher evaluations where the black tick mark represents your evaluation, while the blue one represents your teacher’s evaluation for that particular task.
