We’re excited to introduce the revamped views of ‘Assignments manager’ (accessible from your homepage) and the ‘Assignments’ page within each class.
These updates are designed to give you more flexibility in viewing and tracking assignments, along with a more streamlined and efficient experience. Let’s explore these views in detail.
Assignments page within class
From your homepage, navigate to your preferred class.
💡This article explores the IBPYP class Assignments view but the features remain consistent across all curriculums.
Next, head over to the ‘Assignments’ page from the left pane.
On this page, you will find a variety of new viewing, filtering, and display features, as highlighted below. Let’s explore each of these in detail.
View switcher
We now offer a new view switcher, allowing you to seamlessly switch between the existing card format and the newly introduced table format to view assignments. Note that both views offer customizable display settings and filter options, giving you complete flexibility in how you wish to view your list of assignments. Let’s explore these views in detail.
Card view (current layout)
This view presents assignments in a vertical, card-based format. It is ideal for quickly browsing through assignments without the need for extensive data analysis.
💡This is the default view set for all users.
Table view
This new view offers a structured format, displaying all key assignment components in a column layout. It is ideal when you are working with a large volume of assignments and require deeper insights at a glance.
These columns provide a clear overview of each assignment, showing submission status, due dates, assigned students, and evaluation progress. By organizing the key components into sortable columns, as will be explored later, you can efficiently track and manage your class progress.
Customizable display settings
Use the ‘Display settings’, as shown below, to adjust the visible components for assignments. The applied changes are reflected on both the card and table view for Assignments.
You can configure unique display settings for each of the tabs on the left pane (To review, Reviewed, Scheduled, etc.). By default, a set of display settings will be enabled for each of the tabs; however, you can customize them to your preferences.
Choose the tab and configure the following settings:
Assignment details: Controls visibility for fields such as due date, open/close date, associated unit, grading period, and assessment category for each assignment.
Status count: Controls count visibility for assigned, pending, submitted, evaluated, completed, and shared assignments.
Tags: Tags essentially function as folders to which tasks can be tagged, ensuring efficient categorization of all assignments. Using this setting, you can show tags as a column (for table view)/with the assignment details (for card view), in the side navigation, or hide them entirely from the page.
Note that you can create and manage tags only if they are displayed in the side navigation. Furthermore, this setting for ‘Tags’ is only available on the Assignments page within a class.
Sort by: Use this setting to sort assignments by creation date, due date, or open/close date, with the ability to order them in ascending or descending order using the arrow icon.
Filters
To improve assignment tracking, you can use the filters available at the top:
Grading periods: This newly introduced filter enables you to view assignments tagged to one or more grading periods/terms or across all collectively.
Added by: Use this filter to view assignments created only by you or all teachers tagged to the selected class.
‘Unread messages’ visibility
The ‘Unread Messages’ section has been redesigned for improved communication tracking within assignments. Previously, this tab displayed individual assignment details along with the message badge alerts. With the new update, the most recent unread student messages appear distinctly, focusing on the message content over assignment-specific details.
The display varies based on the selected Assignment view:
Card view: Unread messages appear as a subtext beneath the corresponding assignment name.
Table view: Unread messages appear in a dedicated column next to the corresponding assignment name.
This updated view allows you to quickly glance at the latest student messages without the need to open assignments individually.
Assignments manager page
To view the revamped assignment manager page, click on the corresponding card or the expand icon from the Assignments widget on the homepage.
💡You may see either one of the two access points depending on your homepage configurations.
On this page, you can view your assignments from across all the classes you teach in the current curriculum. With the new updates, you will see the same view options, display settings, and filters here as in the class Assignments page. These options work in the same manner as explained above except for the additional ‘Classes’ filter, as explained below.
Classes filter
This filter allows you to filter assignments from one or more classes you are teaching. The class tagged to each assignment will show as a column in the table view and as a subtext in the card view.
💡This filter option is only available on the ‘Assignments manager’ page.
Note that the settings you do on ‘Assignments manager’ (on the homepage) or on the Assignments page (within a class) are retained across both pages. This ensures that your preferences are saved resulting in improved efficiency.
These updates aim to enhance efficiency and provide greater flexibility in managing and tracking assignments.
That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
