A revamped unit planning experience!

Updated over 2 months ago

Toddle’s unit planner page has a fresh, new look! With the new update, we have introduced a more seamless, scrollable layout that minimizes clicks and brings all your planning elements onto a single page. We have also refined the field types and supporting tools to make the planning process more efficient and intuitive. Let’s take a closer look at what has changed.

To begin, click on ‘Create unit’ or open an existing unit from within a class.

You will now land directly in the ‘Editing’ mode of the unit planner, allowing you to begin/resume planning immediately. You can also switch to ‘View’ mode using the dropdown menu to access a read-only version of the unit plan.

Newly created units are now saved as soon as you click ‘Create unit’, whereas previously, saving a unit required entering a set of basic details first.

The new planner layout consolidates all planning elements into a single, scrollable page, helping you edit your unit plan faster and with fewer clicks. The same has been implemented in the ‘Implementing’ and ‘Reflecting’ sections of the unit. Additionally, read this article to learn how the revamped ‘Unit flow’ section helps streamline planning and content management.

💡 This new format is fully compatible with your existing unit templates; therefore, no setup changes are required. Moreover, all your existing units remain intact.

Field type changes

With this update, several field types within the planner have been enhanced for more consistency and improved usability. You will notice cleaner formatting, intuitive spacing, and a more unified look across all sections. Let’s take a closer look at some of these field types:

Checklist with textbox (for IBPYP)

A checklist-based layout has been introduced for specified concepts, where clicking on a concept checkbox directly opens a textbox below it for elaboration. Previously, selecting a specified concept would open a separate pop-up window.

Table-based dropdown (for IBPYP)

A table layout has been introduced for selecting additional concepts, allowing you to associate them with each subject and specified concept using dropdown menus. You can easily search for existing concepts or create new ones directly within the dropdown.

Modal-based checklist

The experience of selecting subject standards, skills, ATLs, and related concepts (for IBMYP) in the unit planner has been significantly improved for better speed and usability.

Previously, clicking on the ‘plus’ icon directed you to a separate page. With the latest update, this workflow has been made more compact and intuitive. The standards/ATLs/skills/concepts now open in a pop-up modal on the same page, eliminating the need to navigate away from your unit plan.

You can now also use the top-most checkbox to select all available standards/ATLs/skills/concepts in one click, saving you considerable time and effort.

Additional tool enhancements

Learning experiences and resources window

You can now view a list of all tasks and resources created for the selected unit by clicking on the provided icon at the top right. A panel opens up on the right where you can view, manage, and create tasks and resources. Click on the plus icon in the right pane to import/create tasks and add resources. Additionally, use the search bar or the filter to quickly locate specific items, as shown below.

Previously, learning experiences, assessments, and resources were accessed separately through individual icons on the right.

💡This panel is accessible across all unit planner tabs except the ‘Evidencing’ tab.

Three-dot menu

Use the three-dot menu in the top-right to access key actions, such as accessing the planner overview, viewing insights (For IBPYP and other progressive curricula), printing, sharing, or deleting the unit.

Additionally, if you prefer to switch back to the old unit planner interface, you can do so by clicking on the ‘Switch to old UI’ option. You can return to the new interface by using the same option. Note that your selection will be retained the next time you open any unit, allowing you to continue working in your preferred interface.
