Flip your photo with the mirror image button!

Updated over 2 months ago

We’ve added a ‘mirror camera’ feature to improve your experience of capturing photos directly on Toddle web. This enhancement is especially helpful for students and teachers when uploading written work, where orientation matters. Read this article to learn more!

Mirror camera functionality

When taking a photo in Toddle, the image is captured in its original, non-mirrored form by default. This ensures that any written work or text, like notebooks, worksheets, or signs, appears exactly as it does in real life.

However, in some cases, such as when you're taking a selfie-style photo while holding up an object, you might expect the photo to look like a mirror reflection, similar to what you see in front-facing camera apps.

To support both preferences, Toddle now includes a Mirror image button on the photo capture screen. When you click this button, the photo you take will be flipped horizontally, so text and objects appear just like they would in a mirror. Toddle also remembers your last selected setting, so future photo captures follow the same preference.

Let’s take the example of capturing a photo while creating a portfolio post:

  1. While creating a portfolio post, select the photo option.

2. In the camera interface, look for the Mirror image button on the right-hand side. Click on it.

3. Turning it on flips your camera feed horizontally, just like a front-facing mirror. This helps you take photos that feel more natural, especially when using the front-facing camera.

Here’s how the non-mirrored (left) and mirrored (right) photo previews appear after capturing an image using the Mirror image button.

That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
