Toddle provides an intuitive workflow for a student to track the tasks assigned to them, submit their response and view the assessment done by the teacher.
This article will give you a detailed walkthrough of the following-
Task submission
Self-evaluation
View the assessed task
Navigating to pending tasks
via Homepage
On the homepage, you will see ‘Assignments and deadlines’ widget with a list of assignments you need to work on from all your classes. This list is divided in three tabs - Upcoming tasks, Overdue tasks and the tasks which have no due date.
Clicking on ‘View all’ will take you to a full page view with an elaborate list of your pending tasks.
Here, you have a full page view of your tasks, their due date and status. You can also filter them out based on classes and the type of deadline.
via Assignments
To view specific class tasks, you can navigate to the 'Assignments' page by selecting a class from the homepage. You can find the 'Assignments' option in the collapsible menu on the left. Once there, tasks are categorized under three tabs: To-do, Scheduled, and Done. It's important to note the status of each task—tasks can either be open or closed for submission. If a task is marked as closed, students will not be able to submit work for that task. Additionally, badges may appear alongside tasks, indicating that a message has been sent by the teacher to provide additional information or updates.
via Notifications
You will receive notifications whenever a task is assigned, graded, or when submissions are closed. Additionally, a reminder notification will be sent one day before the submission deadline. These notifications provide direct access to the task from your homepage for quick and easy navigation - you can access the task simply by clicking on the notification. You will also receive an email notification when tasks are assigned, helping to ensure that all tasks are completed and submitted on time.
Task submission
To submit your response, click on the task name either on the above screen or using the ‘Assignments and deadlines’ widget on your homepage. This will open the task details page.
Once you are on this page, you can add your work in two ways:
Option 1: If the teacher has not provided a submission template for the task, you can click on the ‘Add work’ button and submit your response in the form of a photo, voice, video, audio, file, workbook or link. Depending on the chosen response type, you'll get options to directly capture/record content or upload from device/one drive/google drive.
Option 2: If your teacher has provided a specific submission template for an assignment, it will show up in your submission page and you can click on the ‘Add response’ button to submit your work using the given template.
Once you have added you work, click on ‘Mark as done’ at the bottom to submit it.
Click on the 'Messaging' button at the top right to track important actions, like when a task was assigned or graded. You can also see one-on-one conversations between you and your teacher here. You can easily respond to these messages or ask any questions using the space at the bottom. Teachers will receive an in-app notification immediately when you send them a message, and you’ll be notified when they reply. In addition to the in-app notification, email notification will be sent to both sides if the message remains unread for more than five minutes.
Furthermore, if your teacher has allowed it, there’s a 'Class discussion' tab too, where you can join in on conversations with your classmates about assignments or class topics.
If you would like to resubmit your work, click on ‘Unsubmit’. Please note that you will not be able to modify/resubmit your work once the assignment is marked as evaluated by your teacher.
Self-evaluation
If the assigned task is open for student evaluation, you will be able to self-assess your work using the specific assessment tools added to a particular task. Your teacher can choose to add multiple assessment tools for a given task, which you can use for self-evaluation.
Step 1: To self-assess your work, scroll down to the ‘Evaluation method’ section on the task submission page. Against each assessment tool(rubric/checklist/single point rubric), you will find the ‘Evaluate your work’ button. Click on it to open the assessment rubric/checklist.
💡Student evaluation for ‘Score based assessment’ and ‘Final remarks/comments’ will be disabled by default at your end.
Step 2: Assess your work as per the assessment rubric/checklist and click on ‘Done’ if you are satisfied with your evaluation. Repeat the same process for other assessment tools added to the task (if any).
Step 3: Once you are satisfied with your submission and self-evaluation, click on the ‘Mark as done’ button to complete your submission. If not, click on the ‘Edit evaluation’ button to revise the self-assessment.
After marking the assignment as done, you will be able to view your self-evaluation and response. If you want to make changes to your work, you can always click on ‘Unsubmit’ and make the submission again. From this screen, you can also add your work as a portfolio post. Refer to this article to learn more.
In case the teacher has not enabled student evaluation for a particular assessment tool, you will see the view option instead of edit for it.
View the assessed task
After the teacher has evaluated and shared your work, you can view the teacher’s assessment by going to the given assignment under the ‘Done’ tab on ‘Assignments’, as shown below.
Click on the desired task to view the evaluation shared by your teacher for the assigned task.
There are different kinds of assessment tools used - score based assessment, rubric, checklist and final remarks/comment. Your teacher can choose one or more of these assessment tools to evaluate your work. You will accordingly see the shared evaluation at your end.
The score and the remarks given by the teacher are visible directly on this page. For other assessment tools, click on the ‘View evaluation’ button to get a detailed view of evaluation shared by your teacher.
For instance, the rubric used here for evaluation shows both student and teacher evaluations where the black tick mark represents your evaluation, while the blue one represents your teacher’s evaluation for that particular task.
This powerful feature will help students easily submit assessments and plan learning goals based on their progress.
