Keyboard shortcuts on Toddle let you access relevant modules on the web with ease, saving you time and effort. In this article, we will explore the Keyboard shortcuts guide available on the platform. This guide offers a comprehensive overview of the shortcuts and how to use them for a more efficient workflow. Let’s explore the guide in detail!
Navigating to the Keyboard shortcuts guide
Click on the bulb icon in the top right corner of the global header to access the new ‘Keyboard shortcuts’ guide. Alternatively, press the ‘K’ key to quickly view this guide.
Inside the ‘Keyboard shortcuts’ guide, you will find that the shortcuts are specific to different sections of the platform. They are categorized as follows: Universal, Global header, Class navigation, Jump to, and Quick action. You can also search for specific shortcuts by pressing the ‘/’ key.
Let’s explore each category in detail.
Universal
The shortcuts in the ‘Universal’ category work from anywhere on the platform. Regardless of which module or class you're in, these shortcuts apply across the Toddle platform.
For example, if you press ‘Command’ + the ‘/’ key anywhere on the platform, the quick search’ modal will open on the screen.
Global header
The shortcuts in the ‘Global header’ category work only on screens where the ‘Global header’, i.e., the black navigation bar on top, is visible.
For example, if you press the ‘X’ key on any page where the ‘Global header’ is visible, you can access the program switcher.
Class navigation
The shortcuts in the ‘Class navigation’ category are available whenever you are inside a class.
For example, if you press the ‘A’ key while inside a class, you will be directed to the Assignments module.
Jump to
The shortcuts in the ‘Jump to’ category let you access all modules and sections on Toddle that are available in the ‘Jump to’ modal, which includes all the modules on your homepage.
For example, pressing the ‘J’ key followed by the ‘A’ key will take you to the Assignments manager module.
Quick action
The shortcuts in the ‘Quick action’ category help you quickly perform specific actions on a screen. Unlike other shortcuts that navigate to modules or sections within Toddle, quick actions can only be used on screens that support them. For instance, you can use a quick action to close a modal when a modal is open on your screen.
💡 Please note that quick actions only apply to screens where these actions are available. For example, if you are on a screen without a side navigation, you won’t be able to use the shortcut for it.
For example, if you press the ‘/’ key on a screen with a page search, you can start typing directly into the search bar without having to click on it first.
Settings
In the keyboard shortcuts modal, you will find the ‘Settings’ option, which includes two settings:
Enable shortcuts: If this setting is enabled, you can use shortcuts to navigate pages, modules, and classes simply by pressing a key(s). If you prefer not to use shortcuts, simply toggle this option off.
Shortcuts are enabled by default, but you can turn them off anytime.
If you disable shortcuts:
the ‘Enable prompts’ option will also turn off, as both settings are connected.
you will no longer be able to access Keyboard Shortcuts using the ‘K’ key.
Enable prompts: When enabled, this option reminds you of available shortcuts each time you perform an action that supports them. This setting is also enabled by default. If you prefer not to receive these reminders, you can toggle this option off.
For example, if you navigate back to the homepage without using the (H) shortcut, a prompt will appear, showing how you could have accessed it more easily. If you disable this option, prompts will no longer appear when you don’t use shortcuts.
If you make any changes in this modal, click ‘Save changes’ to apply them.
