We're excited to announce a series of enhancements to the Behaviour management module on Toddle. These updates give school administrators more flexibility and visibility when configuring categories and severity levels for incidents. Note that the terms ‘incidents’, ‘action’ and ‘levels’ used in this article may differ for you based on the custom nomenclature setup by your school. Read this article to learn more.
This article will cover:
Enhanced category management
Customizable severity levels
Enhanced category management
The category setup page in the Behaviour management module has been enhanced to give you better visibility and control. To access it, go to the ‘Behaviour management’ module, click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner, and select ‘Categories’.
💡These updates apply only to the admin experience and do not affect educators’ workflows.
On the category setup page, you will find two new columns:
Total incidents
This column displays the number of incidents associated with each category, specific to the academic year you're viewing. It helps you to monitor trends in student behaviour across different categories and understand which types of incidents are being reported more frequently.
2. Status column
This column shows the current configuration state of each category using three possible status indicators:
Draft: This status means the category is incomplete - it's been created but doesn't have any subcategories added yet. Teachers can't use it to log incidents until it's completed and published.
Published: This status means the category is fully configured and available for all staff to use when logging behaviour incidents.
Unpublished changes: This status means that the category has at least one published subcategory, but there’s also a saved draft with changes that haven’t been published yet. You can go inside and click on the ‘Edit’ button to view the details.
A dialog box will appear prompting you to either ‘Retain changes’ or ‘Discard changes’ made in the previous session. Click ‘Retain changes’ to continue editing and publish when ready.
Once you're done reviewing or making edits, click ‘Save and publish’ to finalize your changes.
The category’s status will automatically update to ‘Published’ once all drafts are saved.
Customizable severity levels
Previously, every sentiment (positive, neutral, and negative) came with a fixed set of four severity levels. As an admin, you could only rename or change the color indicators of these pre-defined levels.
Now, you can add new severity levels and delete existing ones or reorder as per your requirement. To do so, within Behaviour management, go to the gear icon on the bottom left of the screen and click on ‘Levels’.
On the ‘Levels’ page, you'll see severity levels grouped by sentiment. Each group has a gear icon, click it to manage levels for that specific sentiment.
In the modal, you can add, modify or delete levels for the selected sentiment. To add a new level, click the ‘+ Add level’ button at the bottom of the list. Enter a level name (e.g., Extreme), pick a color indicator, and click ‘Save’ to apply your changes. The newly added severity level will immediately become available for selection on the incident creation page.
To delete a level, use the trash icon next to it. The delete icon will be disabled for levels that are already linked to incidents in the current academic year to protect data integrity.
You can also reorder levels by using the drag-and-drop handle next to each level. The updated order will reflect anywhere severity levels appear, such as in the dropdown during incident creation. Next to each level, you’ll see the number of incidents it's currently linked to.
Once you’re done making changes, click ‘Save’ to proceed.
Once saved, any newly created level (e.g., Extreme) will appear under its respective sentiment group, with its incident count visible beside it.
These updates are designed to give you greater flexibility and control over how behaviour incidents are structured and tracked across your school.
That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
