We’ve enhanced the assignment workflow to give teachers more flexibility. You can now set a past due date when creating or editing an assignment - perfect for documenting prior learning tasks, syncing offline activities, or maintaining an accurate timeline of student work. Let’s walk you through how it works.
Backdating the due dates of assignments
With this update, you can now backdate the due date while creating or editing an assignment.
When creating an assignment, if you select a due date that is earlier than the current time, it is treated as a backdated due date. For example, if you’re creating an assignment on July 16 and set the due date as July 9, it will be considered a backdated assignment.
When you set a due date in the past:
A confirmation modal will appear, informing you that the due date is in the past.
Students will not be notified about the assignment.
Submissions will not be considered as overdue or late; they will appear as ‘turned in’ or ‘pending’.
You can confirm this action by clicking ‘Yes, assign’, and the backdated due date will be saved.
If you try to set a due date that is earlier than the open date, you’ll see a warning and won’t be able to proceed until the due date or the open date is corrected.
You can also backdate the due date when editing an existing assignment. To do this, go to ‘Edit settings’ and choose a past date from the calendar. For example, if you edit an assignment on July 16 and set the due date as July 11, it will be considered backdated. In such cases, students will not receive a notification about the change, and any new submissions won’t be marked as late or overdue, just as with newly created backdated assignments.
That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
