TOK essay components

Proposal submission

The first step for you as a student entails putting together a proposal and selecting a topic for your TOK essay. The ‘Proposal’ section on Toddle allows you to indicate which title you will be addressing from the list provided by the IB and add additional remarks. Your proposal status as marked by your supervisor will be indicated in the top bar of your screen.

Every time your supervisor updates your TOK essay status, you will receive a notification about the same that can be viewed by clicking on the bell icon on your homepage.

To have a one-on-one conversation with your supervisor about any TOK essay element, simply click on the comment icon located above the respective field. If you notice a red badge next to any section in the left pane, it indicates that the teacher has left a comment for you or made updates in that section. Additionally, a red dot on the comment icon will tell you the exact field where a comment has been added. This behavior applies to tracking comments in other sections as well.

Reflection space

The ‘Reflection space’ is where you can record reflections throughout your writing process to improve your work. Click on the ‘Add’ button to add a new reflection. You can also use this space to prepare for interactions with your supervisor. You may document reflections as notes, photos, videos, links, and more. If you wish to make any changes, use the three dot-menu to edit or delete. Your supervisor can view these reflections and comment on each one.

TOK Essay

Under the ‘TOK essay’ section, you can submit draft essays and a final essay for your supervisor’s review. If provided by your coordinator, you will see an option to use a template to draft your essay. Utilize the ‘Word count’ field to indicate your essay’s word count to your supervisor. The integration with Turnitin allows you and your supervisor to run a plagiarism check on your work.

💡Please note that Turnitin integration must be enabled by your school administrator for you to do a plagiarism check on submitted files.

Additionally, if the setting is enabled by your school administrator, your submitted files will be automatically locked within 15 minutes of upload. You will not be able to make any changes to the locked file unless your supervisor unlocks it for you.

Furthermore, you can easily check if your supervisor has annotated your essay by clicking on the bell icon on your homepage. As you click on the notification, you will be taken to the TOK essay page, where you can find out where your supervisor has provided feedback by looking for a red dot next to the annotated file and a notification badge on the left pane.

Once your supervisor has approved the same, they will lock the entries so that no further edits can be made. Or if auto-locking is enabled by your admin, the reflections will be automatically locked within 15 minutes of upload. You will not be able to make any changes to the locked reflections unless your supervisor unlocks it for you. When the entire form has been completed, your supervisor can download it from Toddle for submission to the IB.
