How can I create a Class flow to share and manage my class teaching content as an educator?
Updated over a month ago

We are thrilled to introduce the Class flow module that allows you as an educator to seamlessly organize your class’s teaching content in one place. It is an easy way to disseminate course content such as lessons, resources, videos, etc. to students. You can organize teaching materials in a structured view using sections, sub-sections, etc., replicating the order in which students will engage with the course content. Read this article to learn about these features in detail and how to use them to enhance your classroom management.

In this article, we’ll explore:

  1. Navigating to the Class flow

  2. Adding/Importing class teaching content

3. Assigning and sharing options

  4. Viewing options

  5. View at the students’ end

  6. View at the families’ end

  7. Class flow vs. Assignments (formerly, Class stream)

Navigating to the Class flow

From your homepage select the class for which you wish to create a ‘Class flow.’

💡Please note that this article uses the PYP curriculum as an example but the feature works the same way across curriculums.

Group 7424.png

Within the left-hand collapsible menu, find the ‘Class flow’ option.

💡Please note that you will only see this option if this module is enabled by your school admin. To learn more refer to this article.

Adding/Importing class teaching content

On the ‘Class flow’ page, click the red button in the top right corner or the green ‘+’ icon to add or import teaching content to your class flow.

Group 7425.png

Let’s explore each one of the options under the ‘Add’ button in detail.

Import from

If you wish to import an existing task to your class flow, you can do so from the Unit flow created under the ‘Unit planning’ section in your class, your school’s Learning experience and assessment library or the Toddle library. You also have the option to import content from the class flows of your other classes in both the current and previous academic years. Let’s see how each one of these options works.

Unit flow

You can import tasks from the unit flow created by you or other teachers across your curriculum. Click on the ‘Unit flow’ option in the collapsible menu under the ‘Import from’ section. Read this article to learn more about creating unit flows for classes in PYP, MYP, and DP.

Group 7426.png

Begin by selecting the relevant unit. You can easily search for units using the filters for ‘Grade’, ‘Unit type’, and ‘Subject’ at the top, or search directly using the search bar. Once done, click ‘Next’.

Group 7435.png

Next, select the relevant learning experiences, assessments, and unit resources under the ‘Select items’ tab.

You can use the ‘Type’ filter to find tasks based on their task type, i.e., LEs, assessments, worksheets, etc. Here you can bulk-select items or select them individually. Once done, click ‘Import.’

This will create a new copy of the task/resource in your class flow, meaning any edits you make to the imported item won’t impact the original task/resource in the unit flow.

💡Please note the selected tasks and resources you import will be added to the main ‘Class flow’ page in ‘Draft’ mode.

Group 7428.png

Learning experience and assessment library

The Learning experience and assessment library stores tasks created by you and other teachers across classes in your curriculum. To import a task from this library, select the ‘Learning experience and assessment library’ option.

Group 7429.png

Here, you can select the relevant task. As you select the task, a preview appears on the left side for a quick review of the task details. Use the ‘Grade’, ‘Task type’, and ‘Creator’ filters at the top to narrow your search. To import tasks from other academic years, click on the academic year dropdown menu next to the ‘Filters’ tab. Once done, click ‘Next.’

Group 7430.png

Furthermore, you can edit the selected task. Customize it as needed, then choose to save it as a draft or assign it immediately. When assigning a task, you can adjust its settings.

This will create a new copy of the task in your class flow, meaning any edits you make here won’t impact the original task in the library.

Group 7431.png

For assigned tasks, you can view the status of student submissions and teacher evaluations here to get a quick overview of the task's progress.

Group 7433.png

Toddle Library

You have the option to import tasks from the ‘Toddle Library.’ Here, you can access learning experiences and resources curated by Toddle. Read this article to learn more about the Toddle Library.

Group 7432.png

You can easily filter the learning experiences using the ‘All posts’, ‘Grade’, and ‘Subject’ filters at the top. As you select your preferred learning experience, a preview will appear on the left for easy review. Click ‘Next’ to edit the selected learning experience.

Group 7434.png

Here, you can tag the learning experience to the relevant unit, subject, or assessment category. You can easily update pre-filled fields such as term, learning experience description, submission template, etc. To save your edits and assign the task later, use the ‘Save as draft’ option. Or click ‘Assign’ to directly assign the task to students.

This will create a new copy of the task in your class flow, meaning any edits you make here won’t impact the original task in the library.

Class flow of another class/academic year

Finally, you can import tasks and resources from class flows created for other classes in both the current and previous academic years. Simply click on the 'Another class/academic year' option to do so.

Group 7562.png

In this section, you can filter classes by 'Academic years' and 'Grades'. Use the search bar to find specific classes. Remember that you can only select one class at a time. After selecting the relevant class, click 'Next'.

💡Please note that you will only see classes you are currently associated with or have been associated with in previous academic years.

Group 7565.png

On the 'Select items' tab, you will see the complete class flow of the selected class. Use the ‘Type’ filter to filter items in the class flow by task or resource type. You can then select items individually or bulk select a sub-section, section or all of the contents using the ‘Select all’ option. You can also make use of the search bar to find specific tasks and resources.

Additionally, you have an option to set the 'Due date and time' and 'Scheduled date and time' for tasks that you are importing. Once you have made your selections and added the appropriate dates and times, click 'Import as drafts' to import the content in draft mode to your class flow.

💡Please note that you can proceed with importing content even without adding a 'Due date and time' and/or 'Scheduled date and time'.

Group 7563.png

Back on the class flow page, you will see that the items you imported have been added to your class flow in draft mode.

Group 7564.png

Add a section

For better organization of tasks, you can create sections and sub-sections. Just click the ‘Add’ button on top and select the ‘Add a section’ option.

Group 7439.png

Here you can add a suitable title, and then click on the check mark to create the section.

Group 5455.png

Once the section is created, hover over it to access the ‘+’ icon and start adding content. Or, directly drag and drop existing items into the section.

Group 7438.png

To drag an item, simply hover over it and use the drag handle (six-dot menu) to move it to the section.

Group 7447.png

You can create subsections by hovering over the section title and accessing the ‘+’ icon that appears. You can then add items to the sub-section using the ‘+’ icon or by dragging existing items into them.

Group 7440.png

In addition to the drag-and-drop functionality, you have the option to easily move items across sections of Class flow using the 'Move to section' feature.

Move to section

Let’s use a Class flow from another class (Grade 2A) as an example to understand this feature in detail.

Moving an item

Click on the three-dot menu next to the item you wish to move. Then, select the 'Move to section' option.

Group 7903.png

A modal will appear, allowing you to choose the section or sub-section where you'd like to move the selected item. Once you've made your selection, click on the 'Move here' button to proceed.

💡 Please note that if you move a draft item to a shared or assigned section, the item will retain its draft status and will only be shared or assigned once you manually choose to do so. However, if you move a shared or assigned item to a draft section, students will no longer be able to see that item in their Class flow.

Group 7904.png

Your item will then be added to the section you moved it to.

Group 7905.png

Moving a section/sub-section

You can also move an entire sub-section/section to another existing section. Simply click on the 'Move to another section' option in the three-dot menu.

Group 7906.png

In the modal that appears, you can select which sub-section/section you’d like to move the selected section to. Then, click the 'Move here' button to proceed.

💡Please note that the hierarchy for sections and sub-sections cannot exceed four levels, so certain sections or sub-sections may be disabled in the list if they exceed this limit.

Group 7907.png

Your sub-section/section will then be moved to the selected section.

Group 7908.png

Let’s return to the Class flow created for Grade 3 as an example to understand the rest of the features.

Create a quick task, learning experience, assessments, or worksheet

In addition to importing tasks as explained in earlier section, you can also create a quick task, learning experience, formative/summative assessments, or worksheet directly from within the class flow. Simply click on the desired option. For this article, let’s create a learning experience.

💡Please note that the option to create a formative or summative assessment exists only for MYP and DP curriculums.

Group 7441.png

You can add a suitable title for the task. By default, the task gets saved as a draft. To add details to the task, simply click on it to start editing it.

Group 7442.png

Inside the task, click on the ‘Edit’ button to start adding the task details.

Group 7443.png

Fill out the necessary details, then choose ‘Save as draft’ or ‘Assign’ as needed.

Group 7445.png

💡Please note that any task created/imported in Class flow will also be accessible from the Assignments module.

Add a link

If you wish to add a link for a resource, click on the ‘Add a link’ option here.

Group 7444.png

Here you can add the link and display text. And then, click ‘Done’ to add the link to your class flow.

Group 7446.png

Add a note

Simply click on the ‘Add a note’ option to add a note to your class flow.

Group 7448.png

While adding a note, use the rich text editor to format the text, add links, emojis, equations, and tables. Refer to this article to learn more about the rich text editor options. To adjust the content, hover over the text box and use the drag handle (six-dot menu) to move it. Once done, click ‘Add.’

Group 7449.png

Upload from

You can use the ‘Upload from’ option to upload files from Google Drive, OneDrive, or your own device.

Group 7450.png

If you wish to rename, move the file to another section, download, or delete the file after uploading, use the three-dot menu next to it.

Group 7451.png

Assigning and sharing options

Assigning options for tasks

For any of the tasks added to your class flow, you can use the ‘Quick assign’ or ‘Assign’ options to assign the task to students.

‘Quick assign’ automatically assigns the task to all students in your class, allowing them to start submitting their work immediately.

Group 7453.png

Click on the ‘Assign’ option and the below screen will open up. Here, you can edit the post settings, set a due date and time, and modify the list of students tagged to the task. You can also add another class using the ‘Add class’ option. Once done, click ‘Assign.’

Group 7452.png

Once you have assigned a task, you can perform the following actions using the three-dot menu highlighted below:

  • Mark the task as evaluated

  • Mark it as evaluated and share with students

  • Edit the task

  • Move to section

  • Tag standards and practices

  • Remove it from the class flow

  • Delete the task altogether

💡Please note that these options may vary depending on the content type (task or resource) and the post settings configured for a task.

Group 7458.png

Sharing options for resources

For any resources you add as a link, note, or file, you will see the options to ‘Quick share’ or ‘Share’ with your students. Use the ‘Quick share’ option to share it with all students in your class.

Group 7454.png

In case you wish to share the resource with selected students and those from different classes, use the ‘Share’ option.

Group 7455.png

In the pop-up that appears, you will see the current class with all its students listed under the ‘Students’ column. To add a new class, use the ‘Add class’ option in the top right corner.

Group 7456.png

You can edit the list of students in these classes by clicking the box against the students. Select the students you wish to share the resource with. Once you've made your selection, hit ‘Select’ to proceed.

Group 7459.png

Remember, you cannot delete the default class, which is ‘Grade 2A’ in this case. However, you can delete the new classes you've added using the delete icon. Finally, hit ‘Share’ to share the resource with the selected students.

Group 7463.png

You can easily undo the sharing of a resource with students by using the ‘Unshare resource’ option in the three-dot menu. This will immediately remove the resource from the students’ view.

Group 7457.png

Sharing a section

If you have created sections and sub-sections in your class flow and added tasks and resources within them, you must share those sections for students to view the tasks. When a section or sub-section is marked as 'Draft' (i.e., not shared with students), all items within it—whether assigned or saved as draft—are not visible to students.

Additionally, if a specific task is marked as 'Assigned' but placed under a section that is in draft state, it will appear to students in the 'Assignments' module but not in the class flow.

In summary, to ensure students can see tasks and resources, make sure the sections and sub-sections containing them are shared and not in draft mode.

You have two options for sharing a section: ‘Share section with all content’ and ‘Share section without content.’

Share section with all content

As you hover over a section the option to ‘Share section with all content’ appears in the top right corner. Clicking on this option will share all of the sub-sections, tasks and resources immediately with the students.

Group 7464.png

When shared, the items will be shared with their current settings. Once shared, you can track the status of the shared items directly from this page.

Group 7460.png

Sharing section without content

The ‘Share section without content’ option allows you to selectively share specific tasks or resources within a section. When you share a section using this option, all tasks/resources under that section retain their original statuses(draft/assigned). For example, if a task/resource is saved as a draft, it won't automatically be assigned/shared with students. However, tasks that are already assigned to students will be come visible to students under this section on the Class flow page.

Group 7462.png

Unshare section

You have the ability to unshare a section or sub-section at any time using the ‘Unshare section’ option in the three-dot menu. This will immediately remove the section or sub-section, along with all its items, from the Class flow page on the students' end.

💡Once a task is assigned, it will appear on the student's Assignments page, even if the section it belongs to is marked as unshared (draft) on the Class flow page.

Group 7461.png

Viewing options

Search option

You can easily find specific tasks or resources by using the search bar at the top to look them up by title.

Group 7465.png

Filters

Click on the filter icon to view the following filters:

  • Content types: Use this filter to view content by its type, such as quick tasks, learning experiences, notes, links, etc.

  • Shared with: Use this filter to view tasks/resources shared with specific students in your class.💡Please note that this filter won’t show students from other classes, even if they are tagged to the shared tasks/resources in your class flow.

  • Added by: Use this filter to view tasks/resources added by you or other teachers of this class.

Group 7466.png

Display option

Finally, use the ‘Display’ option to customize your Class flow view. Here, you can choose to show the outline, including any sections and subsections you have created. You can display either the thumbnail image or the type of task/resource, such as LE, note, etc., for the content you have added. For each task and resource added to the class flow, you can also display the following details: assessment category, due/scheduled date, close/open indicator, and shared and assigned status.

Group 7467.png

View at the students’ end

Students will see the ‘Class flow’ module in the left side panel of their class.

💡Please note that students will be able to access this module only if it is enabled for them by you or the school admin.

Group 7468.png

Inside the ‘Class flow’ section, students can view all the class content shared with them. They will see a 'New' badge whenever you share a new item in the class flow. Additionally, they can track updates to these items by checking the numbered badges that appear next to them. They can use the search bar at the top to find specific items or use the ‘Status’ filter to view items based on their submission or completion status. Students can click on tasks to start working on them directly.

ooooooo.png

Students will receive notifications for any sections and resources shared with them in the Class Flow under the notifications panel on their homepage. All Class Flow-related notifications will be found under the ‘Primary’ tab, and students can view these items by simply clicking on them. Tasks assigned under the Class Flow section will still appear under the ‘Assignments’ tab.

Group 7470.png

View at the families’ end

Family members will see the ‘Class flow’ module in the left side panel of their child’s class.

💡Please note that as a teacher, you can share class content only with students. However, this content will automatically be shared with their connected family members if the ‘Class Flow’ module is enabled for them by you or the school admin.

Group 7471.png

Inside the ‘Class flow’ section, families can view all the class content shared with their children. They can use the search bar at the top to find specific items or use the ‘Status’ filter to view items based on their submission or completion status. Families can click on tasks to view task details or their child’s work (if already added) directly from this page.

Group 7472.png

Family members will receive notifications for any sections and resources shared with their child in the Class Flow under the notifications panel on their homepage. All Class Flow-related notifications will appear under the ‘Primary’ tab, where they can view the items by clicking on them. Tasks assigned under the Class Flow section will still be listed under the ‘Assignments and deadlines’ section on their homepage.

Class flow vs Assignments (formerly, Class stream )

As an educator, you can use the ‘Class flow’ and ‘Assignments’ (formerly, Class stream) modules to enhance your classroom management. There is some overlap between the two modules, as both allow for task creation. The ‘Assignments’ module is designed for task creation, status management, evaluation, and submission insights. In contrast, Class flow organizes tasks and additional learning resources, helping teachers plan how to share content with their students.

With the introduction of the Class flow module, admins and teachers can choose to use either one or both modules based on their needs.

💡Please note that any task created or imported in Class flow will also appear in the Assignments section. Similarly, when creating tasks in Assignments, you will have the option to add them directly to Class flow.
