We’ve updated ‘Planning insights’ to include insights for custom data sets used in unit plans. Previously, custom data sets added to a planner were not visible in Planning insights, making it challenging for teachers and administrators to monitor their usage across grades and subjects. With this update, admins can enable insights for custom data sets, allowing analysis of their integration across the curriculum. Let’s dive in for details.
💡This article uses the IB MYP curriculum as an example, but the feature works the same for all curriculums.
Including custom dataset in planning insights
As an Admin, you can navigate to the ‘Academic setup’ section of a curriculum and access the ‘Custom data sets’ tab from the left pane.
On this page, you will see all the custom datasets that are included in your unit plans. Use the three-dot menu against a custom dataset to include or exclude it from planning insights.
Once a custom dataset is included in Planning Insights, you and your teaching staff will see dedicated insights cards for it under both vertical and horizontal views, as shown below.
Let’s say you’ve added a custom dataset in your unit plan for including UN SDGs (Sustainable development goals) in your teaching and learning.
Teachers will see this custom dataset available while creating a unit plan, allowing them to document the SDGs being covered in their units.
Previously, there was no central place to track how custom data sets were applied across subjects and grades. Now, with this update, custom data sets are automatically reflected in ‘Planning insights’, allowing for easier monitoring.
Viewing planning insights (for admins)
Once teachers have created unit plans and documented the UN SDGs being covered, you can review their coverage through insights. You can do so by accessing ‘Planning insights’ from the admin portal.
Here, you will see both vertical and horizontal overviews, along with overall programme-level insights. Navigate to the ‘Vertical overview’ section, select a subject and click on the SDG insights card to see how these goals are addressed across different grade levels for the selected subject.
The table shows the number of units where each SDG has been addressed in different year groups. The ‘Total units’ column provides the overall count of units where a specific SDG is covered across all grades. You can click on any number in the table to view the specific units where an SDG has been addressed.
Similarly, in the Horizontal overview section, you can track how a custom data set, like Sustainable development goals (SDGs), is covered across different subjects within a selected grade level. Navigate to the ‘Horizontal overview’, choose a year group (e.g., Year 1), and click on the SDG insights card to explore subject-specific coverage.
The table provides a breakdown of how Sustainable development goals (SDGs) are covered across subjects in ‘Year 1’. The numbers indicate how many units within each subject incorporate a specific SDG, allowing you to analyze subject-wise distribution. Click on any number in the table to view the specific units where an SDG has been addressed.
The modal shows a list of units along with the associated learning experiences and assessments within each unit.
Viewing planning insights (for teachers)
As an educator, once you have created unit plans and documented the UN SDGs being covered, you can review their coverage through insights by accessing ‘Planning insights’ within a class.

Downloading Insights
Educators and school administrators can download insights to keep an offline record. The downloaded file will reflect the same organized view as seen on the platform.
This enhancement provides more control over reviewing curriculum planning data, helping schools tailor insights to their unique standards and frameworks.
That's all for now. We will continue to innovate and improve to make your Toddle experience better each day!
