Viewing your CAS portfolio
To begin documenting your CAS activities on Toddle, click on the ‘Creativity, Activity, Service’ card on your homepage under DP Core.
This will take you to the CAS landing page, where you will be able to see an overview of your CAS portfolio, including the experiences/projects you have added so far, the CAS strands they address, the learning outcomes tagged, duration of the project/experience and your overall progress. The ‘Create new’ button at the top of the table allows you to create a new CAS experience/project.
Additionally, you will find separate card for ‘Interests and goals’, ‘Evidences and reflections’, ‘Feedback’ and ‘Interview’. Later in this article, we will discuss each of these cards in detail.
The Guidance tab on the top stores all CAS learning material shared by your school coordinator and those provided by Toddle.
Creating a new experience/project
If you want to add a new experience/project to your portfolio, simply click on the ‘Create new’ button on the dashboard. This will allow you to create a new entry, where you can provide details about the experience/project, including title, dates of the activity, strands, approaches, and CAS stages. Additionally, you can attach external or internal supervisor(s) to review and approve your CAS experience.
To add a supervisor from within your school, select the ‘Internal’ option in the ‘Supervisor’ section and choose teacher(s) from the drop-down menu.
In case the supervisor for your CAS experience/project is external to your school, select the ‘External’ option and fill out the necessary details.
Lastly, add collaborators, if any, to your experience by selecting the students from the drop-down list. Once done, click on the ‘Create’ button to save your experience/project.
CAS experience/project details
As you select a CAS experience or project from your dashboard, you have the option to make changes to the existing details or add new ones. You can access the details you provided during the initial creation of the CAS experience under the ‘Title and basics’ page, and make any necessary edits. Furthermore, if you have any supporting documents such as a risk assessment form, you can upload them using the ‘Add a file’ button which is highlighted below.
The 'Description and learning outcomes' section is the space to express your motivation for pursuing this particular experience by providing a short write-up on what the experience will entail and specifying the learning outcomes that it will cover.
If the CAS stages were selected in the title and basics section, you will see a section on the left panel where you can elaborate on how these stages will be applied to this experience.
The 'Evidences and reflections' tab allows you to add and document evidences and reflections related to your experience or project. You can add evidences from your local device, Google Drive, or OneDrive and include descriptive reflections alongside them.
Your supervisor can review and comment on each reflection or evidence that you add, and you will receive a notification about their feedback under the bell icon on your homepage.
Furthermore, tagging learning outcomes to a piece of evidence/reflection will allow this evidence to appear in your CAS portfolio as proof of the successful completion of those outcomes.
Upon completion of your experience or project, your supervisor will provide a final review comment and mark its status as 'Completed.' Once marked as Completed, you will not be able to make any further changes to the experience or project. However, you will be able to view the supervisor's comments in a read-only format.
At any point, you can view the status of your CAS experience/project on the page header at the top right. It can have one of the following values - ‘Draft’, ‘Approved’ or ‘Completed’, as marked by your supervisor. You will receive a notification under the bell icon on the homepage, every time your supervisor changes the status for your experience/project.
CAS Interests and goals
In the CAS portfolio landing page, you can add your overall goals and aims for CAS under the ‘Interests and goals’ section. This section allows you to articulate your personal interests, aspirations, and intentions for your CAS journey. Your adviser can provide feedback on your goals and you can have a one-on-one discussion using the comment window.
Evidences and reflections for the learning outcomes
Under the ‘Evidences and reflections’ section of your CAS portfolio, you can track your progress towards achieving the 7 learning outcomes (LO) of the CAS program. Under each LO, you will find an aggregation of all the evidence from the CAS experiences/projects that you have associated with that specific outcome.
When you have presented sufficient evidence for an LO, and your adviser marks it as achieved, a green tick will appear next to the LO. You will also receive a notification confirming the achievement.
CAS Feedback
This section is where you can view feedback from your CAS adviser or coordinator on your overall CAS engagement. You can also interact with them by using the comment option provided next to each feedback.
CAS Interviews
As per the IB guidelines, each student must undertake 3 formal CAS interviews during 2 years of DP. If enabled by your school administrator, you will be able to see the CAS interview comments logged by your adviser for the 3 formal interviews. You can also upload CAS interview recordings from your end, if enabled by your school administrator.
CAS Completion
Once you have fulfilled all CAS requirements of having completed 7 learning outcomes, 3 formal interviews, and at least 1 CAS project, your adviser will review your portfolio and provide feedback on your overall CAS engagement. If they are satisfied that you have met all the requirements, they will mark your CAS as complete. You will receive a notification about this.
