Calculate overall grade for MYP interdisciplinary learning
Updated over a month ago

We are delighted to share that you can now give an overall IB grade to students for interdisciplinary learning. Earlier, you could only rate student on the individual interdisciplinary learning criteria. Read this article to learn more.

To begin, navigate to MYP curriculum within the admin portal and click on the ‘Academic setup’ card.

In addition to the two options for calculating IBMYP grades for regular subjects, there is now a toggle setting for calculating the overall grade for interdisciplinary learning.

If this setting is enabled, an overall IB grade for interdisciplinary learning will be awarded to each student based on the ratings given to them for individual interdisciplinary learning criteria. This rating will be automatically derived based on the grade boundaries set by the IB. However, teachers will be able to override the rating.

If the setting is turned off, there will be no final IB grade or local grade shown in the progress report for interdisciplinary learning. Only the ratings given on individual criteria and their total will be displayed.

💡This setting will be enabled by default for all schools.

Likewise, they can toggle the setting for calculating the local grade for interdisciplinary learning.

💡 If the setting for calculating the overall IBMYP grade for interdisciplinary learning is not enabled, you will not be able to enable the local grade setting for it either.

Let's explore how the overall interdisciplinary learning grade will be calculated based on the following configurations:

Scenario 1: When the interdisciplinary learning rating toggle is turned on and the ‘calculate from score’ is selected for overall grade and local grade

Under the ‘Interdisciplinary learning’ section of the progress report, teachers will find a new section for the calculated interdisciplinary learning grades. This includes the total score, final IB grade, local grade, and custom evaluation criteria, if any, based on the administrator's configuration. The total score is simply a sum of the three individual interdisciplinary learning criteria and may range from 0 to 24. Based on the total score, the final and local grades will be automatically calculated. Additionally, the IB boundaries for deriving the final grade based on total score are also displayed for easy reference.

Scenario 2: When the interdisciplinary learning rating toggle is turned off

When the interdisciplinary learning rating toggle is turned off for overall grade and local grade, teachers will only be able to view and rate the custom evaluation criteria, if configured by the administrator.
